These carpets are hand knotted in a classic, oriental style with inspiration from antique Persian Sarough carpets. They are called American Sarough since they were originally intended for the American market. The carpets, which are often dark blue or pink, are made by hand in studios in Varanasi in Indien. In their manufacture high class and soft highland wool is used which is dyed in a harmonic colour scheme with natural colours in a traditional way. The carpets are antique-treated in order to get their special, somewhat toned-down appearance.
